چکیده

Abstract Understanding future changes in global terrestrial near-surface wind speed (NSWS) specific warming level (GWL) is crucial for climate change adaption. Previous studies have projected the NSWS changes; however, of with different GWLs yet to be studied. In this paper, we employ Max Planck Institute Earth System Model large ensembles evaluate contributions changes. The results show that decreases over Northern Hemisphere (NH) mid-to-high latitudes and increases Southern (SH) as GWL by 1.5 °C–4.0 °C relative preindustrial period, these characteristics are more significant stronger GWL. probability density shifts toward weak winds NH strong SH between current 4.0 Compared GWL, ?0.066 m s ?1 +0.065 especially East Asia South America, decrease increase most significant, which reach ?0.21 +0.093 , respectively. Responses of terrestrial aridity to global warming

The dryness of terrestrial climate can be measured by the ratio of annual precipitation (P) to potential evapotranspiration (PET), where the latter represents the evaporative demand of the atmosphere, which depends on the surface air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and available energy. This study examines how the terrestrial mean aridity responds to global warming in terms of P/PET...

Estimating the near-surface permafrost-carbon feedback on global warming

Thawing of permafrost and the associated release of carbon constitutes a positive feedback in the climate system, elevating the effect of anthropogenic GHG emissions on global-mean temperatures. Multiple factors have hindered the quantification of this feedback, which was not included in climate carbon-cycle models which participated in recent model intercomparisons (such as the Coupled Carbon ...

Global warming and changes in drought

17 How is drought changing as the climate changes? Several recent papers in the scientific literature have focused on this question but the answer remains unclear. Here we attempt to understand this socially and ecologically relevant topic. We discuss what the expectations for changes in drought should be, and thus the prospects for the future, and we provide some recommendations for resolving ...
